In addition to the rolling stock the following will also be bought, ready for the launch of the business.
This is an example of one of the 5 inch gauge track panels.
They arrive as a kit from PNP Railways. This particular one has screw chairs, but for speed we will be purchasing panels with clip chairs.
Each panel is made of two 1.25m long 16mm aluminium rails, 13 plastic sleepers which are spaced approx. 90mm apart, and 26 sleeper chairs.
The sleepers themselves are slightly oversize to improve stability.
Each panel will be joined by a portable track joiner which is quick to install and remove.
We intend to stock 48 of these straight panels, along with 32 panels bent to a 20ft radius and an angle of 11.25 degrees.
This is an example of the track connectors that will be used at installations.
It is supplied by Ride-On-Railways and is a heavy metal plate that clamps across the rail joint giving a secure connection in less than a minute.
Just one person could complete a full installation with all our track components in less than an hour.
Periodically during the hire day the line will be inspected to ensure the connectors have not come loose.
This picture also shows the two different types of track panel. The lower one has screw fit chairs, while the upper panel has clip fit chairs.
Two of these buffer stops have already been bought and await building in readiness for our demo running day at the end of March.
It is supplied by PNP Railways and is made from the same materials as the track panels with the addition of laser cut supports and wooden buffer beam.
This kit will be permanently connected to one of the 1.25m track panels.
Already bought, this tool is essential in the building of the curved track panels. It clamps to any workbench and the rail is fed through, bending as it goes. In conjunction with the spreadsheet we've devised we can bend any rail to any radius we desire.
All of our curved track panels will be built from the 1.25m track panel kits and we can produce 20ft radius curve sections each being 11.25 degrees.
Keeping within 1.25m will make it easy to transport the rail sections to site either by small van or trailer.
The 3m x 4.5m Gazebo will form the station area for the line. It will be supplied with ropes to secure it to the ground and also weighted feet.
Supplied by Primrose, it has an aluminium frame and a waterproof canopy.
Safety fencing will be provided by CSI Products. Each pole can be installed on grass or concrete and are connected by two rows of safety chains.
Enough will be provided to enclose the whole railway to ensure no one strays onto the line.
